Pannier tanks

Here are some pannier tanks made from 10L spring water tanks.  The hooks are made from the steel panels that cover the card slots at the back of a desktop computer case (some of these are a heavier guage than others).  The hooks fit tightly onto the pannier rack so that it doesn’t rattle or bounce off.  An octopus strap or an old inner tube can tie it even more securely to the rack.  The hooks are pop riveted onto the tank with some washers on the inside.  They easily carried 4kgs of soy milk.

April 24th) Brakes – adjusting brake levers and calipers, fitting brake pads, fitting and lubricating cables

Free workshop series for members

Cycle Saloon will be running a series of free workshops for members (membership costs $10 per year and you can sign up on the day) each Sunday starting February 7th at 9:30am (until about 11am) and finishing March 6th. **This was previously announced as running once a month but is now once a week.

This five part series will cover 5 fundamental areas of bicycle servicing:

February 7th) Wheels – adjusting hub bearings, truing wheels, fitting tyres and tubes, fitting cassettes/freewheels

February 14th) Bottom end – fitting the bottom bracket, cranks, pedals and chain

February 21st) Front end – adjusting the headset bearings, stem and handlebar, positioning brake and gear levers, fitting grips/grip-tape

February 28th) Brakes – adjusting brake levers and calipers, fitting brake pads, fitting and lubricating cables

March 6th) Gears – adjusting shifters and derailleurs, fitting and lubricating cables

Bring your own bike along to work on or use one from the Saloon. Different bikes have different components, so the sessions will be tailored to the bikes people have brought in on the day.

You’re welcome to join in at any point in the series, however it is beneficial to do it in sequence from the beginning because adjusting the brakes depends on the wheels being correctly adjusted and tuning the gears depends on the bottom bracket, crankset, chain and cassette being fitted properly (to take just 2 examples).

We will be running this series multiple times throughout the year so keep an eye out for announcements.
